Emma's Chai Recipe
By Sophia BrittanOctober 01, 2009
Ingredients*:
Loose black tea
Milk
Water
Spices (such as cardamom pods, ginger, black peppercorns, cinnamon)
(*Amount depends on taste)
Directions:
Take loose black tea and put it directly in a pot with two parts milk and one part water. The amount of black tea you use should be according to your taste. Add one teaspoon of sugar for each cup of liquid.
Using this base, add the spices that suit your mood. The staples are cardamom pods, a few thin slices of fresh ginger, black peppercorns, a cinnamon stick and some star anise if you have it on hand.
Once you have added any or all of these spices to your chai, heat it up and let it simmer for a bit—5 minutes should do it. Strain it of the spices and pour into your favorite mug to enjoy!
Nutritional information is dependent on the milk you use as the base for the tea, but starts at 91 calories (1 cup skim milk).
