Find the Right Jeans for Your Body
Olivia Neko | Contributing WriterAugust 21, 2009
Trying to find the perfect pair of jeans? Well, you've come to the right place! We've all encountered the too-tight jeans, the too-short jeans and even the saggy-butt jeans, but your blue-jeans blues are about to be over.
For many women, a pair of jeans is the apparel to avoid when trying to hide or disguise a figure flaw. But the fact is that the right jeans with the right fit can not only shave 10 pounds from your figure, but can also give the appearance that your butt is higher, your legs longer and your hips narrower. And did we mention the fact that we love that certain something that's simultaneously gritty, chic and just plain hip about the right denims? The most important thing to know about shopping for jeans: Honor your shape and you won't go wrong.
If you have a wider waist:
Try Levi's Ultimate Boot Cut.
Okay, we all know and love our Levi's, a.k.a. the "denim authorities," masters of the boot-cut universe. This silhouette seriously balances your proportions, by the way. You can pair those qualities with what we can only call a magically contouring waistband for a style to die for. It's longer, leaner and perfectly proportioned.
Price: $85- $180, depending on the wash
Available: Levis.com
If you're curvy all over:
Try True Religion in Joey.
True Religion has a remarkably flattering cut, which seems to work wonders for everyone, but especially curvy gals. It's all about the ingenious seam placement, along with precise pocket positioning and a just-right flare at the knee. All these factors balance the cut, creating an elongated hourglass for an outstanding smooth and lengthening overall fit.
Price: Joey Medium Vintage Wash, $172
Available: TrueReligionBrandJeans.com
If you have full hips:
Try Salt Works Denim in Orchard Street.
We love this style because the distinctly shaped, almost hexagonal pockets and dropped "V" waistline elongate your body, and the side seams are pulled forward, causing the hips to look discernibly slimmer. In addition, Salt Works doesn't make pockets symmetrical, but conforms them to the curves of the body. This gives an "uplifted" appearance, which flatters the entire silhouette.
Price: $125
Available: SWjeans.com
If you have full hips:
Try James Jeans in James Crane Distressed.
Who knew the placement of tiny things like stitches could make such a difference? The creators of James Jeans did. Their design literally draws the eye upward. When you wear them, your overall form will appear lifted. The advantageously placed darker rinse of denim on the inner thigh area makes thighs appear markedly smaller.
Price: $146
Available: CoutureCandy.com
If you have a generous behind:
Try Generra Second Skin Jeans in Slub.
Nobody wants a good behind to go away, but wouldn't you want an instant lift? If you want your jeans to add shape to your backside, you'll love this style, which features delicate Swarovski crystal glimmering at the hip. The polyurethane mix, which allows the material to curve along the body, coupled with the high pocket placement on the rear, especially enhances the nether region, while leaving enough movement for a non-constraining, relaxed yet really sexy fit.
Price: $155
Available: Barneys.com

WHAT ABOUT JEANS FOR PEOPLE WITH FLAT BUTTS?
Date: 02/06/2009 - 11:45 pm
Yeah, i must agree to the above comments, good thing that we have the guidelines on how to choose the right jeans for us, but economically wise the prices are not convincible. We would appreciate if you can refer us a good quality in a reasonable price. thanks!

WAY out of my budget! And even if I had the money I couldn't find the specified style on the Salt works or JAmes Jean sites.

Anyone looking for jeans to help make a flat butt look better? Try Hydraulic brand. I just got a pair of these and they have smaller, higher pockets but still with a low rise to accomodate my short waist. I'm sooo pleased with them-- they make my butt look great! Also Glo jeans have higher pockets. I find it hard these days to find jeans that don't have pockets that come halfway down my thighs, which just makes my butt look flatter!!
As for where to shop... go to eBay! I just bought a pair of Paige jeans (retail $180-200) for $20.00 including shipping! If you look you can find new or gently used demin for a fraction of the retail price.
