Everybody in the Pool--Not with that Swimsuit You Don’t!
It’s almost "summertime in the city" and we want the “swimmin’ to be easy”...
We plan so many things in life, so why not develop a plan for your swimsuit shopping? This year, let’s vow that it won’t be a last minute thing. Let’s look put together at that next pool party and let’s try not to spill out of our bathing suits at the beach.
1. Ask yourself if you need a new suit. The first place to shop for your swimsuit is in your closet. Try on your suit from last year and follow these simple steps to see if you need to hit the stores. The last thing you want to do is start shopping for a swim suit on your vacation!
- Ask if your current suit is too worn. Look for any stretching of the fabric, holes or fading. See if it fits comfortably--it could be too big or too small.
- Ask if your current suit is out of style. (You know that some of you most likely haven’t purchased a new suit since high school.) If you don’t know whether to laugh or cry when you put it on then you know it’s time to go suit shopping.
2. Decide where you stand on "Skirt vs. No Skirt" debate. If you are not happy with showing your upper thighs, opt for a skirted swimsuit. It doesn’t have to be grandma length--look for cute and flirty.
3. Beware of some tankinis. Everyone loves a tankini! But most tankinis have a straight skirt that hugs the hips which is not flattering at all! Look for a tankini that offers a skirt with an a-line. If you do not need the skirted bottom, you can choose a tankini with a high-waisted brief with tummy control. Look for a company that offers a mix and match.
This season for Lee Lee’s Valise, I found a great Tankini by Coco Reef (pictured above). I love this suit. The Lingerie Twist Tankini not only has a skirt with an a-line but the tank on top has a floating bra (in cup sizes up to 46DD) with an underwire! …and get this…the lingerie straps adjust!!!
4. Don't forget about the almighty sarong. Sarongs are easy to find, come in all types of colors and fabrics. They're easy and they're sexy. Watch my video to find out the best way to tie one.
5. Don't settle for the manufacturer’s fit! You may need to adjust the straps for the correct lift and support. There are several things you can do to achieve that…
- If it’s a halter strap top, you can knot a tie behind your neck.
- For lingerie straps you can criss-cross the straps in the back for a better lift.
- My recommendation would be to just take it to your tailor and have it professionally altered. This will give you an overall fit and you will avoid any mishaps. Just like your bra, good fit will help your overall shape! Droopy just doesn’t sit right--even when it’s swimwear!
In the coming weeks, I will have more tips for shopping for other types of swimsuits and manufacturer’s that I think offer a great look and fit for summertime fun!
What's your favorite swimsuit style?

Paulasue,
If you look for manufacturers that offer Mix and Match.........lots of them offer a swim trunk (swim short). Coco Reef does offers a swim trunk as well as a skirted swim trunk, skirted bottom, high waisted bottom and a classic bottom.

I will need a new swimsuit for August! My lower legs and thighs are toned...but being 53 the very top is saggy. Can you still find swim shorts?
