Could this really be happening? Our prayers have been answered. There may soon be a cure for cellulite. Researchers recently proposed a new theory in the July issue of Medical Hypotheses on an unexpected solution—Viagra.

The drug has been used for years to treat erectile dysfunction, but now it may benefit us ladies as well. As you might know cellulite affects many of us because unlike women who don’t have cellulite, our bodies create tiny little compartments underneath the skin, pushing our fat cells closer to the surface. Throw in a little poor skin circulation, some fluid retention, a few compressed oxygen starved blood vessels, and you’ve got one batch of ready to serve cellulite.

Of course, in the world of cellulite bad news quickly becomes replaced with even worse news. Not only are most treatments ineffective and expensive, but according to the article, losing weight does not help. In fact, they suggest that weight-loss causes fat globules to reach out of the skin even more. If that’s not frustrating, I don’t know what is.

So how can Viagra help? The idea behind the theory is that drugs such as Viagra have been found to improve microcirculation around the skin, break down the fat stored beneath the skin, and dilate blood vessels to help get more oxygen to the inflamed, squished blood vessels. How do we know all this? Well it’s very similar to the effect it has on males. The only difference is that the blood flow and circulation improves elsewhere. It may sound too good to be true, but the theory does seem to make sense so keep your fingers crossed.

Obviously the drug will most likely be made into a cream or administered another way to avoid any side effects and get the optimal results, so grabbing a few from hubby’s stash is a bad idea. Let's just hope Pfizer does not mind sharing Viagra's testosterone filled spotlight with us ladies.
