Halloween candy labels can be tricky, and if you’re not careful, you could be consuming many more calories than you expect. Here health editor-at-large Madelyn Fernstrom, Ph.D., CNS, puts the myths to rest.

Myth No. 1: Sugar-free candy has fewer calories than regular candy
When it comes to candy, sugar-free doesn’t mean calorie-free. From jelly beans to chocolate, most sugar-free candy has roughly the same calories compared with candy made from sucrose (white sugar).
