...And 5 Other Calorie Myths
Health-Editor-at-Large Dr. Madelyn Fernstrom gives us the 411 on the latest false calorie claims.
Eating Celery Burns Calories
The difference between the calories burned from chewing and digesting celery and the calories you ingest is so minuscule that there is virtually no impact on weight loss. However, celery is very low in calories—it contains 8 to 10 calories a stalk and is 95 percent water—so snacking on it will keep you on track.

I'm of the "every little bit helps" school. Although the calories burned chewing celery are miniscule, as are the calories in celery, I still feel it is a smart choice for dieters. Low in calories, filling, and keeps my mouth busy with something other than potato chips. I'll continue chewing celery stalks and filling up on ice water between meals. Can't hurt. Might help.

I think the liquid calories thing pinches people all the time. They watch every morsel of food that passes their lips but ignore the calorie content of the juice and other liquids they may be drinking. If you are trying to lose weight and think you are doing all the right things to no avail, you may need to watch your liquid intake a little close. Write down EVERYTHING you've eaten and drank through the day and add up the calories. This will make it easy to find the culprit that is getting in the way of your weight loss.
I have to say that I always recommend drinking 6-8 glasses of ice cold water. I'm not convinced that I should stop either. I think any benefit that it may have on the metabolism is a plus, even if it is minor. Great Post!
