How to Beat Overeating

It’s true what they say—television adds 10 pounds. A recent study shows that TV food ads directly correlate with an increase in calorie consumption. Before you swear off your TV, Health Editor-at-Large, Madelyn Fernstrom, Ph.D., CNS, helps you avoid the television-induced munchies:

  • Don’t watch TV on an empty stomach.
  • Have a low-fat, high-fiber snack beforehand.
  • If you can, fast forward through commercials.
  • The simplest way, watch less TV.

I couldn't agree more with this.  It is a nightmare for me watching tv at night, in fact sometimes I will see an ad on tv at night and still be craving it the next day.  I know a lot of women feel like this.  I posted this on the truuconfessions site a while a go about how I was fighting the urge to go a fast food place at 10pm at night after seeing it on tv.  I got 25 "me too's"  Thank goodness for the DVR so I can fast forward through the ads.
