7 Health Food Imposters To Avoid

Not Just Juice

When it comes to fruit, eat it—don't drink it, says iVillage diet and nutrition expert, Dr. Madelyn Fernstrom. Just because it says it's "100 percent juice" does not mean it's necessarily low in calories and sugar. Even pomegranate juice, the new "it" juice, is still a danger zone. If you're going to go for the juice, try picking dark-red fruits and drink it in smaller portions.

A good alternative: A splash of 100 percent juice in seltzer.

Just because the label says it's 100% whole wheat, doesn't mean it's 100% healthy. My in-laws buy a brand of whole wheat bread with high fructose corn syrup and other artificial things (coloring, I think) in it. We buy the Roman Meal brand a the Schewebel's outlet in Ohio for only $.89 a loaf and it's completely natural.

Also, the package might say that it is made with whole grains, but the whole grain listing might be after the white flour listing, corn syrup, HFCS and other junk. I don't think companies count on people actually reading the ingredents list. (Otherwise there would be more real foods and not junk imposters.)

  • To Anonymous who asked above what is Greek yogurt: It is not the same as plain yogurt. In short, it is thicker and creamier than regular plain yogurt (as a result of being strained), has a higher protein content, and has a tangier taste. Unfortunately it also comes with a higher price tag. My favorite Greek yogurt brand is Fage, but you can also get Stonyfield Farm Oikos and Chobani brands, among others.

For the lemon substitue and equal person  that makes Lemonade that's good for you !

I don't agree! Why a substitute for anything anyway?

I think you'd be better off juicing the lemon and discovering how deliciously sweet it will taste naturally add some organic honey (just a little) if you need more sweetness but No substitutes

Respectfully, The Duchess
