Tricks of the Plate

Decisions, Decisions

From the minute we roll out of bed to the minute we crawl back in, we’re confronted with a barrage of food-based decisions; up to 200 per day, according to Dr. Brian Wansink, author of Mindless Eating. Since monitoring each one would leave us exhausted before noon, the key is to change our food cues to help us make better decisions—without even knowing it. Here’s how to start making feel-good choices.

My dietician says, don't use the artificial sweetners, they can do more harm, rather have natural sugar, but in reduced quantities. So in stead of having 5 cups of tea or coffee a day with 3 sugars in each, I now have 2 cups with only one sugar each. I eat 5 meals a day and have used this website to asist some of my cravings etc. I love chips, Lightly salted plain Lays......but I am getting better, we are down to 8 chips a day instead of a half of a large packet. Luckily I do not crave chocolate. Good luck to all trying to develop healtier eating habits. Cape Town SA

i rarely drink soda.  if i do, it's pepsi/coke zero.  a few soda substitutes: 100% cranberry juice (whole foods, trader joe) with a splash of perrier, and another favorite is orange or lemon sparkling mineral water.

Diet lemonade with unsweetened fruit juice on ice. Yummo! You get a fizzy, fruity hit, with a few extra vitamins and antioxidants, and adding diet lemonade is a lot nicer that plain soda or water.
