Elsie,
I know your weight loss journey will be a long one, so don't get discouraged. Some of the things that help is eat small meals often, they suggest 3 small meals and a snack in between each meal, to keep your energy up. Drink a lot of water or green tea is really good, Nuts are good for snacks. I just bought me the Wii fit and love it, I can exercise at home on my own time with a personal trainer, it is really making exercise fun, and my husband and I bowl every Wednesday night together, and my daughter joins in once in a while. Try and get a fun routine going and then watch the pounds come off. Wish you the best.

I would suggest you talk to your doctor first about starting a new diet or exercise program. When I talked to my doctor about it he suggested talking to a nutritionist and it was a very helpful tool. I learned about what I should and shouldn't eat since not only did I need to drop some pounds but I am also diabetic. I joined Curves for low impact exercise and bought a calorie counting software. These things have not only helped me lose 40 lbs but have helped me go from insulin to oral medication. My biggest problem was and still is motivation, it's hard to make yourself work out sometimes. My husband and I now go hiking on weekends and I can't believe I can now do a 5 mile hike and be exhausted but happy! It takes time to learn new things and even though I am in a tough place right now, I have faith that I will come out of it and continue to lose weight. I will be happy once I break the 200 mark and that is my next goal. Good luck on starting and staying healthy!

What are some of the exercises your DR got you started on. I am in my 50's also and there is no way I could move my old body at the pace I see in some of the suggestion on this website. I don't have insurance right now to go to a Dr, but I also do not have any medical problems other than obesity and slightly elevated Cholestrol. I just need to figure out what kind and how much exercise! What did you Dr suggest?

Elsie,
I was so impressed with your words. They moved me to near tears. I agree luck has little to do with weight loss, good planning, hard work and patience are some of the things needed. The best is to have those around you who will support and help you. I would be so happy to be a supporter for you, if you would like. If not, I will be thinking positive thoughts in your direction. I too, am on a long road of losing excess poundage. I think you are fortunate to have a doctor so willing to help. So many of them are not geared to do much more than say "lose' and leave you at that. My best words of advice are : Never give up, and Never beat yourself up when you slip and eat ...pie or cake or cookies...just stop and take a deep breath and return to your diet plan. You have my most supportive and warmest wishes,

Hi all,
I will turn 34 in the next couple of days. I am almost 300 lbs. I work full time and go to school full time. Any tips on how to lose some of this excess weight I am carrying around.
