Weight Loss Tricks: Fact or Fiction?

Change We Can Believe In
Losing weight is so easy, right? Just eat veggies for dessert, skip lunch hour, and poach a personal chef from the local health spa. Scrapping a lifetime of eating habits—especially ones that we all enjoy—is unrealistic. Our expert Dr. Brian Wansink asked 2,000 people to make one of 20 small, manageable changes and see whether they lost weight and felt better after one month. Here’s what worked—and what flopped.

I'm 62 yrs. old, 5'2" and weigh 195. Several years ago I had a car accident that left me busted up pretty bad inside and out, from the waist down. It broke both my legs right above the knees, crushed a foot and ankle, ripped out part of my left knee and internal damage. I have tons of metal, lots of things fused and at the time of my accident I weight 130 lbs.  I also fight a thyroid problem. But my point here is I believe that you can change things, you have to get creative.  I do yoga, which I was doing before accident, I have to modify a lot of it and would suggest if you choose this as an option to go to your local Y and find a class and learn it the right way...they even have chair yoga for those who can not get up and down on the floor. Breakfast is important ..you need to eat breakfast...read and learn everything you can about nutrition and design a program that works for you..eat more fruit and veggies, stay away from processed food, lots of sugar there, eat lean, find something to take your mind off being bored...It is a struggle but giving in to self-pity does not work.  I know I have been there and am still trying to loose...I did the Let's Do Lunch Book by Roger Troy Wilson, went to the website and read and joined the forum there...I have been doing it for a week now...And I am not hungry. It takes some modifications, and you have to be willing to do that.  I also have started walking on my treadmill...it was difficult at first since my gait is not steady because one leg is shorter than the other and my knees do not bend right...but I have started out slow and can now do a 1/2mile a day on the warm-up speed...I do not foresee the running mode in my future but I figure if I can just go at the warm-up speed and increase my miles per day I am making progress. It helps my legs also.  Take control...
