Don’t Overdo It

Patricia
Hometown: Calgary Alberta Canada

Repeating a pattern of walking and jogging helps me not over exert myself to a dangerous point and it also keeps me from hating what I’m doing. If I start to dislike the jog I fear that I’ll quit. I’m 52 years old and I know that stamina increases with age and I can actually walk/jog further and more comfortably now than when I was 35 but in an effort to take the best possible care of my body I never overdo my workouts.

Well I am 53 and I can honestly say that I do not feel any different now than when I was 16 in fact I get 5 or 6 hours sleep now and can go through my whole day till 11 or 12pm...with more energy to burn...and I have made a life style change and have lost in excess of 30 lbs in a short time and did not even feel like I was dieting, I was not even trying to diet, I just made a life style change and I do not go to the gym or power walk or anything like that.....I run up and down 2 sets of stairs at home and do it several times a day and I keep myself busy so I am always on the go, just now it is a happy go lucky, busy and my family say I have lost even more weight each time they see me....I love my life and everything about it....wish I was this happy when I was 16.....Sue

I think you may be the exception in the general rule of stamina or your body has grown use to your routine.  I'm 52 and power walk 6 times a week.  It has much harder now then it was 5 or 10 years ago.  I walk approx. 4 miles in 50 minutes.  I change the route but  usually walk the same distance.  I add different hills and speed to keep it interesting, but there are days when those last 10 minutes feel like I'm going to die!

There are no magic cut-offs for either activity.  Walk as far and as frequently as you are able, and make love for as long as you desire. Unless you have a specific physical condition such as a heart problem and your doctor has advised you against strenuous activity, either activity can and should be continued for the rest of your life. Walk to the ends of the earth and make love like there is no tomorrow.  Never let age alone dictate your physical activity because there is absolutely no correlation. By the way, haven't you heard? 62 is the new 42!

I have to join in here too. I also have extreem endurance when working out. I don' t push myself beyond the comfort zone, but I sure do make it count. I am 51 and I feel so good when I work out. I have begun to do resistance traning too. I am loving the changes in my body. I know I will never have the body I did when I was in my 20's, 30's, or even 40's, but 50's are going to be a new experience and I am enjoying the new and improved me. The new age says I am 40 eleven, lol, gotta love it. I do.

im 47 and my stamina is almost the same as when i was 27 and endurance seems better! all i could tell you about sexual activity is that i had an old uncle, who, at 83, could still get excited! and he bragged about it! lol! i think if you look after yourself and dont think of it as hard yakka but feel it more like leisure, then, anyone can be very active for as long as they like! i met a couple a few months ago who walk several kms (& sometimes ride pushies) every day and they were both in their 70s! its all mind over matter! i can still outrun a couple of my kids! just as my dad could outrun us when he was 50! maybe we could put it down to experience?
