Simply Unsatisfied

Kelli
Hometown: Philadelphia, PA

South beach diet/Atkins were terrible to follow and I felt like I was eating meat, smothered in cheese, with a side of cheese. I've been on Weight Watchers for the last 9 months and truly love it and don't consider it a diet. The main reason that I did not like Atkins and South Beach were because I always felt like I wasn't "satisfied". I am not a big meat person, so having 3 burgers with cheese on lettuce was not appealing. I also had a lot of problems due to travel, it was hard to have "no carbs" while running through airports, in and out of meetings, and staying in hotels. I do realize it can be accomplished and followed, but for my lifestyle it was a lot harder to be so restrictive.

I agree that every body/everybody needs to personalize their diet. I have personalized the South Beach diet . What I mean is that for me a low glycemic carb/higher protein diet works for me both to lose weight and to live a healthy everyday life. Also, I think it helps for people to realize that your diet is simply what you eat. Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, Slim for Life, Jenny Craig, whatever, are all just programs that you can use to help you fine tune your diet so that it is healthy for YOU. They themselves are not truly diets just eating plans. Do not be a slave to a eating plan. Take control of your life YOURSELF. Exercise, eat and enjoy life. The three E's - use in any order for optimum joy. I know, I'm a bit goofy, but I still have fun with the truth at 46.

It makes it harder still when your endocrinologist tells you that you have a faulty carbohydrate metabolism and NEED to keep your carb count down to almost zero to loose. However, that being said it can be done if your determined enough, it becomes personal choice. The same as it is personal choice to critisize. 'Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes

Well then Kelli didn't actually READ either the Atkins or South Beach "diet" books, since both include a LOT of vegetables and berries, even in the beginning stages of the LOW carb way of eating.  Atkins and South Beach "diets" are not NO carb, they are LOW carb.  I tried Weight Watchers and was hungry all the time.  Not every plan is right for every body, but people should get their facts straight before bashing other food plans.

This is so true and even harder to do when you are 75 years old. However, this is the most useful site I have found. It makes me plan not only my meals but my day.  I did not realize until recently that the Tips (Daily Motivator Tips) change daily.  Great!
